Berry’s First and Recent Challenge meme

Meme instructions: Share a side by side comparison of your first blog picture beside a recent picture of your avatar. Don’t forget to share the link to your image in the comments and add your pictures to the Blog Memes flickr group.

I believe this meme idea was given to me by Ms. Trixie Cliassi last year. The idea was to share a comparison of your first blog post to your most recent or new one. I’ve just taken a new snapshot similar to the old one of what my avatar looks like today. She also asked us to share our thoughts on how we feel we’ve improved as photographers or bloggers.

If you don’t have your first blog picture available or prefer to use a different newbie picture, feel free to do so. The point of this post is to talk about how much we’ve changed and grown since the newbie days. I haven’t processed the 2015 picture since the 2007 one was not processed in photoshop, I figured I’d let them both be raw shots.

As Berry did, my shots are raw and untouched except to frame them up for the meme.

This is me on my house in 2008 (omg, I loved purple hair) and me at the same house 2015, you can see an improved world behind me (particle clouds vs windlight), amazing changes in the things I can wear, and some slight changes in me as well (notice the long ears are still long.)

Same house, rebuilt a few times, same parcel, same wonderful Caledon in background. Same wrought iron railings.

The skin in 2008 was the brand new Nova Chai beta. The skin in 2015 is Chiokka from Plastik.

But the meme is also, what are the important changes?

My first blog post was really to setup for the role play I’d been invited to join in steampunk Caledon. I’d been in Caledon for two years before anyone really asked me to RP. The strange part was I got the invite because a young lady thought my avatar was likely a wicked demon or villainess—and a small group were at a point in story were they needed a wicked priestess to arrive for a questionable ceremony.

It was fun, but once the folks were not in SL, the RP functions of the blog went low key.

The really strange part was, I joined SL to do roleplay. But found that RP really was not all that widespread. It is a much more social place than a gaming place. Most folks think RP is hard or tricky to do, but really it is just alt-social.

2. Does your avatar look like the real you? Well yes, as much as I look like me at any given time! :P
3. Do you wear underwear/panties underneath your clothing when out and about on the grid? No, not really. That’s a curious custom but rather harmless.  I will wear what the outfit demands to look complete and many designers include some kind of ‘under layer’ to make skirts work.  However, if there are tons of layers that I don’t think I need, I do not wear them.  This is complicated by the fact that I often ‘mash’ outfits together. So I really don’t wear everything from a single package that often.
4. If you won a million linden dollars, what would be the first thing you buy in-world? Wow.  I think I would buy a decent (full perm) seaplane/hover plane/submarine all purpose script with comments and instructions for the variables all laid out nicely so that even tech challenged folks like me could understand it and adapt it to future builds.  That would be so cool.
5. Have you ever bought something in SL and then realized afterwards that you had already owned it from before? Yes, but not often. It always makes me groan and laugh when I figure out I’ve done that.
6. Have you ever done anything in Second Life that would be considered illegal in real life? Um, well, considering I’m a bit of an expert in avoiding the Law in various dimensions. I’d say, “oh hell yes.”  :D  Why, I’ve even won contests for giving the best mad science rants!!  Ah, they laughed at me at the University, but who’s laughing now????
7. If you could go out on a date with any other avatar, who would it be?  Well, that’s not so hard.  I go on a lot of dates with my honey.  But if I were given an evening with any other Avatar…. I think Torley Linden would be my choice.
8. Who, in your opinion, was the greatest avatar to ever slive?  Laughs. Wow, that’s an impossible question. I’ve heard such great things about so many Avatars. I’m going to give the honors to Aley, who is so talented and generous that she gives her builds to the public all year long.
   
9. What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever done inworld? Hmm, I think it was the time that someone on the chat channel started to talk about me in glowing saintly terms and I totally lost my social balance, typed “oh my god” or something equally strange and ran away by closing the channel.  I was pink for hours.
10. If your avatar had a mind of its own, what do you think it would say to you? “Typist, darling? Be a dear and send me a million Lindens. There’s a good gal pal. Thanks!”
