Double Trouble meme

Strawberry wants to double your meme threat….
passion sun 02

Meme instructions: Share your answers to the following suggestions. Don’t forget to link your post in the comments.

Two online screen names you’ve had: Well, gosh. I’m not that old to have a bunch. Darlingmonster Ember and EyeofSerpent are names I’ve used.

Two video games you’ve played: Rifts and Star Wars: the Old Republic

Two things you love about Second Life: Taking pictures and touring the pictures of other Second Life avatars.

Two things you’ve done in Second Life: I’ve done the Poppins Challenge and won a few keen racing events.

Two things you still want to do in Second Life: I want to build an undersea house and I also want to build an unseelie fae vehicle that is steampunk creepy.

Two things you like about your Second Life avatar: I like my ears are so distinctive and I like that I can flip skins for a mood or an event statement!

Two of your Second Life Pet Peeves: Scripting is so darn complex and no tutorials for low impact mesh building.

Two things you did as a newb that you’re embarrassed of: I’m not really that embarrassed, but early on before I discovered the nice mannered folks of Caledon, I used to hang out in sandbox sims. And that’s where I found out about cages, prim penis assaults, and folks who would seek out new avatars to humiliate us. The whole “just log off” solution never occurred to me in those days. Duh. Second most embarrassing habit was gobbling up all the free outfits I could find without regard for whether they looked nice or not.

Two of your closest friends in Second Life: Solace Fairlady and Autopilot Patty

Two of the most beloved things in your inventory: The shop I built in Caledon and my quad-ears. Chicks dig the ears.

Berry’s First and Recent Challenge meme

Meme instructions: Share a side by side comparison of your first blog picture beside a recent picture of your avatar. Don’t forget to share the link to your image in the comments and add your pictures to the Blog Memes flickr group.

I believe this meme idea was given to me by Ms. Trixie Cliassi last year. The idea was to share a comparison of your first blog post to your most recent or new one. I’ve just taken a new snapshot similar to the old one of what my avatar looks like today. She also asked us to share our thoughts on how we feel we’ve improved as photographers or bloggers.

If you don’t have your first blog picture available or prefer to use a different newbie picture, feel free to do so. The point of this post is to talk about how much we’ve changed and grown since the newbie days. I haven’t processed the 2015 picture since the 2007 one was not processed in photoshop, I figured I’d let them both be raw shots.

As Berry did, my shots are raw and untouched except to frame them up for the meme.

SL first and recent

This is me on my house in 2008 (omg, I loved purple hair) and me at the same house 2015, you can see an improved world behind me (particle clouds vs windlight), amazing changes in the things I can wear, and some slight changes in me as well (notice the long ears are still long.)

Same house, rebuilt a few times, same parcel, same wonderful Caledon in background. Same wrought iron railings.

The skin in 2008 was the brand new Nova Chai beta. The skin in 2015 is Chiokka from Plastik.

But the meme is also, what are the important changes?

My first blog post was really to setup for the role play I’d been invited to join in steampunk Caledon. I’d been in Caledon for two years before anyone really asked me to RP. The strange part was I got the invite because a young lady thought my avatar was likely a wicked demon or villainess—and a small group were at a point in story were they needed a wicked priestess to arrive for a questionable ceremony.

It was fun, but once the folks were not in SL, the RP functions of the blog went low key.

The really strange part was, I joined SL to do roleplay. But found that RP really was not all that widespread. It is a much more social place than a gaming place. Most folks think RP is hard or tricky to do, but really it is just alt-social.

Fun meme!

pssssst ….advice for Second Life newbies

Hey…. Monday Meme time again.

Meme Instructions: List 5 pieces of advice you would give to a newcomer that has just joined Second Life. Don’t forget to leave a link to your post or advice in the comments.

  1. you’ve just become virtual pixels! congratulations! Now please remember that you don’t need to spend money, get a job, rent a house, or do anything that anyone tells you is fun. Follow your own passions or invent a new one and explore it.
  2. hands on! you’ll want to ask lots of questions about the standard LL Viewer before you let someone advise you to try other viewer platforms. In fact, questions about destinations, viewers, groups and clubs, are all great kinds of exploration, but also take in a few ‘survival classes’ at friendly learning spots like Oxbridge University in Caledon.
  3. hands off! please remember manners—-or fake them! Everyone you encounter is a protagonist in their own adventure. If and when they help you, remember that this kindness can be ‘paid forward’ to others you chat with. Walking into people is not cool. Shooting people is not cool. Demanding attention for your personal drama is not cool. Asking for sex is….. right! Not Cool. You know what is very cool? Holding to a standard of friendly and helpful philosophy.
  4. stay organized! stay focused! Put things away in a folder you name, ‘new adventure’ for the first 30 days. Always buy a ‘demo’ of a product if offered. You’d be amazed what standard sizes from different designers look like on your avatar. Create a ‘demo folder’ so you can get rid of things you have not even tried on (a week or a month later). Imagine how you’d like your home closet to be organized and put that thought into your SL inventory.
  5. read the pop ups! ask questions! Please do not accept gifts, items, animations, or even handshakes from people that you do not know well (especially in sandboxes). “I’m very sorry but I’m new here. I don’t accept hugs from people I just met.” This will save you from ‘kissing’ when the animation says, ‘handshake’, or from getting spam objects, or getting neck munched by a vampire who just read your profile and wants to add a notch into their game database. On the other hand, if you are in SL to just be wild and crazy, then go ahead and create a ‘Miss Crazy’ account. Keep her separate from your own more civil explorations.  Don’t drama up your main SL experience by being a wild, crazy, irresponsible, rude, jerk full time……grab an alt.

Have fun!

SL book cover meme… oh yes, I’m famous (snerks)

Meme instructions: Create a book cover to show your avatar in fiction. It does not have to be based on a real book, it can be one that you make up. Don’t forget to leave a link to your cover in the comments and share it in the Blog Memes flickr group.

A fun meme… and what I think is one of my better efforts to make art in SL…. and a darn good book.

The geometry I’m dancing on there is my current ‘sekrit nest’ in Port Caledon.

And thank you Strawberry, for continuing your monday memes.

Beating Heart…

Beating Heart…

Most folks in Second Life are not gaming… they are visiting from their regular lives. In this, you understand that there are tons of fun things to do in Second Life to enrich your regular life.

Enrichment by Art, fashion, events, social moments, music, discussion of literature, and general steampunk whimsy are popular in Caledon.

What is less popular in Caledon… is immersive RolePlay.  I’ve shared some with folks, but really, not for about three years now. Except… really, I hope this doesn’t unwind the wrong string… I’m almost always a Character without a regular life. I do not talk about the Typist so much. I used to make pains to demonstrate there was a difference—-but I’ve been lazy and folks who meet and deal with me over the past few years may understand or not understand at all that I am a protagonist traveling fictional dimensions.

Second Life is my vacation from regular life.

In that sense, I suppose being invisibly a protagonist is easier, smoother, and more social. Folks take me as I am, without regard to what I might be. That’s pretty healthy for all of us. Deeds rather than words. If this is the case I am content.

The link above is discussing vulnerability during RP and how it does not fit with the North American culture. Nothing to see here, move along now.
